Since the Chinese Ministry of Education issued the English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 Edition),key competency has become a hot topic in foreign language teaching and learning.Among the four key competencies of the English subject,few studies have focused on learning ability.Students' learning ability of actively using and applying English learning strategies needs to be improved.In order to find out the strategies used by good language learners,a case study was conducted in Liaoning Province Shiyan Senior High School.The study addressed the following research questions: 1)What language learning strategies do good language learners adopt? 2)How do language learning strategies contribute to English Learning? 3)What is the relationship between learning strategies and English academic scores?In this case study,a questionnaire concerning learning strategies was firstly conducted to 200 good language learners of the school,followed by an in-depth study of 4 learners by observing their classroom performance and interviewing them.Besides,the correlation between language learning strategies and English academic scores was also analyzed.After the analysis of questionnaire data by SPSS and the categorization of the data collected by observation and interview,the researcher has found that good language learners use various strategies to meet their learning needs,with cognitive strategy and metacognitive strategy most frequently used.There is a significant high positive correlation between language learning strategies and English academic scores.Especially,memory strategies are more closely correlated with English academic scores than other strategies.Students who can use various learning strategies frequently and flexibly usually show a higher level of English performance.According to the results,it has been found that using effective learning strategies can help to improve English learning achievements.However,due to the limitations of the researcher's education and research conditions,there are some defects in this study.The researcher calls on more senior high school English teachers to pay attention to the cultivation of language learning strategies.
