The economy gradually recovered in the early Qing Dynasty, and the Jiangnan region became the most prosperous region of the Qing Dynasty's industrial and commercial economy. With the continuous development of the industrial and commercial economy in the Jiangnan region, the expansion of the labor market has attracted more migrants to work. The population surge in the Qing Dynasty was particularly evident in the Jiangnan region. The contradiction between people and land intensified.A large number of people were pushed out of the land. These people became potential labor in the industrial and commercial economy in the Jiangnan region. In the long run,the development of industry and commerce represented by the Jiangnan region has absorbed a large amount of surplus rural labor and has become a new type of social group-craftsmen.By sorting out the existing inscription materials, local chronicles and Qing people's notes and novels,we can see that there are a variety of handicraft industries in the Jiangnan region of the Qing Dynasty, and there is a detailed division of labor within the industry. In the early days, artisans originated from the local and surrounding countryside. However, with the development of the industrial and commercial economy, relying solely on local residents cannot meet the needs of the labor market. Therefore, the prosperous industrial and commercial areas gradually attracted craftsmen from other prefectures.Although the craftsmanship system was abolished in the Qing Dynasty, artisans in both the official handicraft industry and the private arts and crafts industry were strictly managed by thegovernment and even restricted the personal freedom of the artisans.Through the statistics of the price of craftsmen and the price level of Jiangnan in the Qing Dynasty, combined with the social welfare treatment for craftsmen such as the Handicraft Hall and the entertainment life of craftsmen, the overall living conditions of craftsmen were investigated. And explore the relationship between the actual income and prices of artisans in the Jiangnan region in the Qing Dynasty and the relationship between the economic development level of towns and cities and the living standard of the urban population in the Jiangnan region, and reveal the overall quality of life and regional economy of the industrial and commercial artisan groups in the context of agricultural economy.
