College English teaching aims to cultivate students' ability to apply English comprehensively.English reading teaching is the key link of language input and output.It plays an important role in cultivating students' comprehensive application of English language ability.However,the current situation of Tibetan students' English reading teaching at university is not optimistic.Multi-modal teaching mode refers to using more tools and methods as often as possible to mobilize students' senses and learning.In the teaching process,we should pay attention to the principle of balanced use of various modes.In the class,we should try to avoid the phenomenon that only single mode is used from beginning to end of the class.Teaching should be organically integrated with multimedia technology.As the change of era in the development of modern science and technology,many scholars have applied multimodalities to teaching.Teachers always use Communicative Language Teaching method and Total Physical Response teaching method.During the process,multimodalities is inevitably used in the teaching of many subjects.College students' English teaching includes the cultivation of five skills: listening,speaking,reading,writing,and translating.At the same time,multimodalities emphasizes the diversity of the use of symbols in oral or written communication,color,movement and space.That Tibetan college students like singing and dancing provides a good opportunity for teachers to use multimodalities,so as to explore whether it can make Tibetan college students learn English more efficiently.The author applies the multi-modal teaching mode to the English reading teaching of Tibetan college students and aims to answer two questions:1.Can multi-modal teaching mode enhance the English reading interest of Tibetan college students?2.Can multi-modal teaching mode improve the English reading performance of Tibetan college students?The author takes 90 students from the 2018 Tibetan Normal Class and theTibetan Law Class in Northwest Minzu University as the subjects,sets the Tibetan Normal class as the experimental class and adopts the multi-modal teaching mode in the English reading teaching.The Tibetan Law class is the controlled class which is taught with the regular teaching method based on grammar translation teaching mode.The experiment lasts for one semester(February 2019-July 2019).In the experiment,the author collected experimental data by conducting test papers,questionnaires and face-to-face interviews on the subjects.Finally,the author uses SPSS 20.0 statistical software to analyze the data and test the effect of multi-modal teaching mode on Tibetan college students' English reading class.After a semester of teaching practice,it was found that the English reading scores of the experimental class were higher than those of the controlled class.The results of the questionnaires and student interviews of the experimental class showed that the multi-modal teaching mode enhanced the English reading interest of Tibetan college students and improved their English reading performance.
