A Report On Translation Of Excerpt From Science And The Global Environment

Coincident with the increasing of extreme weather in recent years,air quality has drawn people's attention.The translation material is the third chapter Air Quality and Atmospheric Science excerpted from the book Science and the Global Environment.The third chapter,which is divided into seven parts,mainly introduces ozone depletion,persistent organic pollutants,particulate matter pollution,industrial smokestack pollution,household air pollution and climate change.The source text is a typical technical text,which is characterized by a number of technical terms,passive voice and long and complex sentences.And as the text is mainly with informative function,the translator chooses Text Typology Theory to guide the translation practice.As foreign countries take the lead in environment research and protection,the author expects that the translation of this chapter can provide some assistance and reference for Chinese readers in relevant fields.The report is divided into four parts,namely,task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.The first part analyzes source and content of the chosen technical text and the target reader.The second part focuses on the whole translation practice,including preparation before translation,translation process and post-translation revision.The third part is the essential part of this report in which some important and difficult cases are analyzed from the perspective of lexical,syntactic and textual level and with the guidance of Text Typology.Finally,the conclusion is reached which includes the experience and lessons drawn from this practice.It is hoped that the translator' translation skills can be improved through this practice.
