A Study On The Application Of Translation Strategies Based On Text Typology

In recent years, due to the deepening exchanges between China and westerncountries in various fields, an increasing number of English articles and works areintroduced to China, and Chinese works to foreign countries by means of translation.As the market demand is growing, translation has become an emerging modern serviceand boarded on economic stage of our country. Great attention is paid to researches ontranslation, and the core issue lies in the ways to improve translation quality andefficiency. In the process of translation, the top priority of a translator is to analyzetext function of the original text and define its text type to choose appropriatetranslation strategy which will largely determine the quality and efficiency oftranslation and it is the reason why the author has chosen this topic.The thesis is aimed to try to discuss the following two questions: first, how cantranslators classify the types of text? Second, how can translators choose correcttranslation strategies in accordance with different types of texts? This thesis, based ontext typology of Katharina Reiss and the author’s own translation experience, studieshow to classify text types and adopt appropriate translation strategies of the commontexts such as news reports, academic articles, literary essays, conference speeches,biographies, advertisements and public signs, etc.It is to be concluded in the light of the author’s translation practice as follows:under the guidance of text typology, the translator can correctly classify text typesbased on the analysis of the function of the original text. Corresponding translationstrategies are applied to different text types in text typology, therefore the translationquality and efficiency could be significantly improved by choosing right translationstrategies. In a word, text typology is a relatively mature and feasible translationtheory which can be directly applied to translation practice.
