This practice report is based on a simulated consecutive interpreting of “the Graham Norton Show”.The talk show,focusing on trends as well as stories and aspects of celebrities,not only builds a communication bridge between the audience and guests,but also offers a channel for exporting cultural industries in Britain and the U.S.The report mainly analyzes humorous utterances in the consecutive interpreting of the Graham Norton Show and provides feasible interpreting strategies.In essence,humorous utterances can be divided into two types,covering the linguistic humor brought by phonetic,lexical and rhetoric factors,and the non-linguistic humor caused by cultures and contexts.Literal interpretation is adopted to deal with the general humor and the ones confined by specific social and cultural contexts,paraphrase,substitution and borrowing have been chosen so as to render the target audience the humor effects that resemble the original.The strategies for humorous utterances in the consecutive interpreting are summarized in the report.It is conductive to improving the abilities of the interpreter and provides guidance for other interpreters to the consecutive interpretation of humorous utterances in other talk shows.
