Sex is a common and important image in Wang Xiaobo's novels. This paper studies sexual descriptions in Wang Xiaobo's novels, from the perspective of diachronic overview.Wang's erotic writing will be divided into three periods, according to its creative time and writing styles.By close reading and using theories,Wang's sexual descriptions in different period are illustrated.Chapter one discusses Wang's erotic writing in early period,by taking the Golden Era as an example. His sexual descriptions, which are bright and beautiful, reveal the existence of Wang Er and people's real life, and express the pursuit of freedom. What's more, character' s sexual activities surpass the obstacles of ordinary thought about sex, which eliminate the official discourse power.Chapter two discusses Wang's erotic writing in the medium-term,taking Love in Revolutionary Times and Hong Fu rush in night as examples. This chapter discusses the relationships between sexuality and mentality of the characters.Sexual statements decline and become abnormal, which reflect the fact that the political revolutionary environment has a huge influence on characters. In this period, sexual writing is less important than political criticism.Chapter three discusses Wang's erotic writing in later period, taking Future World,2015 and other unfinished draft as examples. The totalitarian environment is illustrated and the sexual images are analyzed. The author describes protagonist's sexual lives under governments' control and people who are driven by masochism,so as to criticize the totalitarian culture. As time goes by,the sexual descriptions in Wang's novels have been changed from independent aesthetic objects to gloomy cultural metaphor, which symbolize character features or environments. It is relevant to author's illness, tragic aesthetic sense and negative mental temperament, not to mention the change of his writing styles, which is related to his memories about the Cultural Revolution.
