Guide interpreting can be regarded as one of the most important forms of cross-cultural communication.Compared with other types of interpreting, guide interpreting features tourist-oriented,highly informative and culture-loaded,which surely brings challenge to interpreters. This report is based on the author's interpreting practice in Chaozhou Woodcarving Exhibition of Guangdong Museum. The interpreting performance is analyzed under the guidance of Grice's Cooperative Principle which can not only ensure a successful communication between people, but can also be applied to guide interpreting practice and evaluate interpreting output.Through case analysis, the author discovered that when encountering difficulties, the author applied interpreting strategies, namely, condensation, explicitation, restructuring and adaptation,to convey the information faithfully, clearly and coherently and thus observed the Cooperative Principle. But in some cases, the author caused confusion and misunderstanding as a result of violating some maxims. Therefore, the author proposes that guide interpreters should bear the Cooperative Principle in mind and apply proper strategies to provide a satisfying tour to audiences and accomplish the purpose of guide interpreting.
