Report On The C-E Translation Of Software Product Manual From The Perspective Of Text Type Theory

As science and technology develop,the world is moving into an Internet age,in which information technology and its application exist,advance,and play an important role.To keep track of technological innovation in the world,the Chinese government encourages enterprises to make breakthroughs in science and technology,especially in software.And a lot of software products are developed.Against this backdrop,the writing and translation of introductory texts about software products are performing a more and more critical role.Therefore,it would be fair to say that only a higher level of translation,which keeps pace with technology development,can make substantial contributions to our "Go Out" policy.Software product manual is published to introduce a product to users in an appropriate way and make them better understand the product.An excellent product manual should be authentic,readable,detailed,practical,and bases all the content on sound science,thus making the explanation more credible,convincing,and acceptable,as well as overcoming technical difficulties in utilization.A good product manual will increase the satisfaction level of users,improve enterprises' operation and management,enhance business communication and technological innovation,and even improve international reputation of software development in our country.In other words,we count on the written text to build a positive enterprise culture and heighten a sense of identity in the whole industry.This report bases the content on selections from the C-E translation of Bangcle's Information Safety System,Air Gap Internet Safety System,and Final Report of Research Project on Methods of Postpaid Customer Management of Cloud Service,which are assigned by the director in translation internship.Combined with Text Type Theory,the author illustrates the difficulties encountered in translation and actively looks for satisfactory solutions.At the lexical level,unification and correct usage are required.At the syntactical level,the excessive use of imperative mood and the choice between active voice and passive voice have a significant impact on the translation quality.At the logical level,the attentions to reduce ambiguity by correctly using pronouns also matter a lot.In translating operative and expressive texts,the translator should exert great emphasis on the attitude toward customers and the expressions of parallel construction because they also have a great impact on the potential economic benefits of products.According to Text Type Theory,the same block of text may contain different kinds of language styles and types.Translators should correctly judge and make the right choice.This report is based on Text Type Theory and aims to provide theoretical guidance for the practice of software product manual translation,ultimately improving the translation quality.
