Study On The Manufacturing Process Of The Tiles In The Ancient City Of Jinyang

The tile is a traditional building component laid on the roof to block the leakage of rainwater.It is widely used in various ancient buildings in China and is a very common relic in archeological excavations.As an ancient city ruins with a long history and special burial conditions,the ancient city of Jinyang has unearthed a large number of ancient tiles,mainly plate tiles,semicircle-shaped tiles and tile-ends.This article combines archeological materials,ancient literature records,and previous research results to study the manufacturing process of the tile in the ancient city of Jinyang,and to restore the specific conditions and steps of tile production in different periods of Jinyang.To provide continuous data for understanding the development and changes of tile-making technology in the Han,Wei,Sui and Tang dynasties in the North region.Firstly,carefully observe the traces on the specimens of the tile in the ancient city of Jinyang,and summarize the basic manufacturing process of the tile in the ancient city of Jinyang.The manufacturing process of plate tile is: selecting and processing of mud,preparation of inner molds,blank forming,trimming,end face decoration,cutting of blank barrels,scraping adjustment,printing(engraving)text,drying,entering the kiln for firing.The manufacturing process of the semicircle-shaped tile is: selecting and processing of mud,preparation of the inner mold,forming of the tile body,forming of the tile tongue,trimming,cutting of blank barrels,scraping adjustment,drying,entering the kiln for firing.The manufacturing process of the tile-end is: selecting and processing of mud,making the face,making the side wheel,attaching the semicircle-shaped tile,trimming the back,trimming the side wheel,drying,entering the kiln for firing.The special tile piece-the ridge tile is made by cutting the plate tile.Secondly,according to the stage research of the materials excavated in the ancient city of Jinyang,the tiles were divided into three large time periods from the Eastern Zhou Dynasty to the Han Dynasty,Wei-Jin and Sixteen States Dynasties,and the Northern Dynasties to the Five Dynasties.Based on this,the manufacturing process of each period was discussed,after a comparative study,summarize its development and change.And try to discuss the degree of standardization of tile production from the thickness of the tile.Finally,the comparison of the manufacturing process of Jinyang site's tiles with the tiles of other sites is discussed,and the similarities and differences in the traditional technology are discussed.
