Educated: A Memoir is written by Tara Westover.Once this book was published in2018,it was named one of the best-selling books by major media.This book is about the author's autobiography and is also the author's debut.This memoir allows readers to see the lives of the people who live at the bottom of American society.It also shows that education is so important to the change people's life.By translating this book,the author can also get a deeper understanding of the current state of American society and the struggling stories of ordinary people facing life.The author chooses Chapters 6 and 7 for translation practice,hoping to better understand the author's life experience and touching story through translation,and to grasp the author's writing feature and style.This practical report is based on the functional equivalence theory of American translation theorist Eugene A.Nida.The first part is the task description,which introduces the task source,author and her work,and the purpose of translation practice.The second part is the task process,which mainly introduces the pre-translation preparation,translation process,and post-translation revision respectively;the third part is the introduction of translation theory;the fourth part is the focus of this thesis---case analysis,according to Nida,the functional equivalence theory is specifically analyzed from lexical,syntactic,and stylistic aspects,which involves amplification,extension of word meaning,translation of conjunction “when”,division,inversion,and translation of parallelism and onomatopoeia;the fifth part is the conclusion of the practical report,showing the deficiencies and problems in the translation process,and the improvement measures are put forward to provide some experiences for better translation work in the future.
