With the development of globalization, the exchanges and cooperation among different countries are becoming more and more frequent.Under the circumstances, interpreting plays an irreplaceable role in such interlingual communication activities.Proposed by Danica Seleskovitch, the first president of the ESIT,the Interpretive Theory of Translation is of great and directive significance for interpreting studies and interpreting practice.Guided by the Interpretive Theory of Translation, the author conducts a simulated English-Chinese consecutive interpreting practice for a TV interview held by The Wall Street Journal with the theme of “Britain and the EU: the Way Forward”,and then the report is completed.Based on the strategies put forward by Professor Seleskovitch which include semantic comprehension, deverbalization, deconstruction and reformulation, the detailed analyses are made for some typical cases in the interpreting activity. It intends to present how the interpreter specifically applies the Interpretive Theory of Translation in the process of the consecutive interpreting practice. The report consists of four chapters. The first chapter is task description. In this part, topic source, significance and its features are analyzed.Chapter two is process description, which includes preparations before interpreting, analysis of interpreting process and quality evaluation of interpreting. In the third chapter,a lot of factors that affect the interpreting results are explained at great length, and the author tries to find some methods to solve specific problems on the basis of the Interpretive Theory of Translation. The fourth chapter is conclusion. It hopes that the report can provide much reference for other interpreting learners.
