The Translation Of Fuzzy Rhetoric In Popular Science Texts

This translation report,based on the translation of the fourth chapter to eighteenth chapter of To Educate the Human Potential,describes some translation problems facing the translator and summarizes corresponding solutions.As a popular science text,it has the characteristics of informative text and expressive text,which means it has a touch of literariness and interest in addition to the objective content of science in which fuzzy rhetoric plays an important role.On that basis,the author tries to reproduce the four characteristics of popular science texts in target text through analyzing fuzzy rhetoric from the translation of stable fuzzy rhetoric and temporary fuzzy rhetoric.For the translation of fuzzy nouns,fuzzy verbs,fuzzy adjectives,and fuzzy quantifiers of fuzzy words,translation methods and skills include free translation,semantic extension,omission,adaptation,literal translation and annotation.For the translation of metaphor and personification,translation skills include four characters and metonymy.The above translation methods make the translation achieve the same expressing effect as the original text.In this report,the author offers some solutions to the translation of fuzzy rhetoric in popular science text through some typical cases,hoping to provide reference for other translators of similar texts.
