The translation of scientific texts has always played an important role in non-literary translation.It not only reflects the accurate rigor of scientific and technological knowledge,but also possesses the characteristics of readability,vividness and entertainment.Therefore,it is of great significance to translate scientific texts precisely and scientifically and convey the message of original text accurately and vividly.The source text is an excerpt from why we sleep,written by Dr.Matthew walker.The translator chose chapter 12 to introduce insomnia,sleepwalking and other sleep diseases in detail,which can help Chinese readers establish a new and correct understanding of sleep and sleep disorders.In addition,for Chinese patients,this chapter can give them some understanding of their confusing condition.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the translator divides the problem into two aspects.First,this chapter contains many medical terms,which brings great obstacles to translators.As a popular science text,the target text should try to keep both professionalism and readability of the original text.Besides,the rhetorical devices applied to guarantee the readability also greatly affects the translation quality.In order to solve the problem,the report,adopts such methods as literal translation,addition,adaptation and annotation and so on to properly deal with the terms and rhetorical devices in the text.This report aims to presents some strategies or ways for the translation of popular science texts,expecting to bring guidance and reference to some extend to translators who engage in this field.
