The source text this translation report based on is excerpted from Chapter 6 of The White Racial Frame — “The Frame in Everyday Operation”— in which its writer studies and analyzes the white racial framing revealed by distinct behaviors of the whites in backstage and frontstage settings and elements of the popular culture. The racial framing has a very negative impact on its targets including Black Americans and other people of color,as well as the American society as a whole. To get an insight of it,the author decides to translate this chapter. The core of the translation of informative text is to convey the view of the writer faithfully and completely. As the writer is skillful in using long complex sentences, the author adopts “semantic and communicative translation” of Peter Newmark as guide theory, applies both semantic and communicative translation method supplemented with techniques like amplification, division, combination, conversion, etc.,discusses the key and difficult points in the translating process and illustrates application of various translation methods and techniques by analyzing in lexical, syntactic and textual level respectively. This translation practice portrays a clearer picture of white racialism, related racial discrimination and stereotypes to the author, who hopes the report will be somewhat referential and constructive to similar texts translation while offering some help to those studying the American racial issue.
