Russian writer Dostoyevsky described the contradictory and Sleeper Cell social situation in Peterborough in the mid 19 th century, while Chinese writer Wang Anyi described the ups and downs of Shanghai since the 1940 s.Although Dostoevsky's "Peterborough writing" and Wang Anyi's "Shanghai writing" are different from each other in terms of country, time, national conditions and writing background, the theoretical basis for the parallel study of comparative literature is that Dostoevsky's "Peterborough writing" and Wang Anyi's "Shanghai writing" are different from each other, but they all focus on the darkness and poverty behind the Glamour of Peterborough and Shanghai, through the suffering or ordinary life of the individual, showing the core characteristics of the "underdeveloped modernism" and the urban atmosphere of the deliberate "orientalization" of the two cities,Peterborough and Shanghai are the distorted products of the overlapping of old and new cultures of their respective nations in the period of modernization and transformation, they are the dreamy fog capital, the crocodile city, and the city of the future.Dostoevsky's "writing in Peterborough" and Wang Anyi's "writing in Shanghai" reveal the common theme of vulgarity and illusion brought about by the defects of modernization and the plight of people living in modern cities.Dostoevsky's "Peter Writing" and Wang Anyi's "Shanghai writing" follow the trajectory of urban life, from licorice markets and Shanghai alleys to Nevsky Prospect and the Bund,to Bistros and cabarets, they are trying to dig into the hearts and souls of the low-class people and the poor little people in the city, trying to find out how to correctly treat the development of modernization and urbanization, and how to solve the problem of the spiritual trend of the people in the era of material desire. The Comparative Study of Dostoevsky's "Peterborough writing" and Wang Anyi's "Shanghai writing" has high literary and cultural value,it can not only sort out the different patterns of the two nation-states in the process of urbanization, but also the different characteristics of the writing of the two nation-state literary cities,we can also grasp the fate of the two peoples and the fission of their souls in the process of modernization. The introduction part mainly includes the domestic and international research summary About Dostoevsky's "Peterborough writing" and Wang Anyi's "Shanghai writing",the origin and significance of the research, the research method and the innovation. The first chapter analyzes the common city image of Peterborough and Shanghai in Dostoevsky's works and Wang Anyi's works.Dreamless fog,Crocodile City, future city, these common images are the sublimation of the urban impression of Dostoevsky and Wang Anyi, which dominate the tone of the text and convey the common theme--a meditation on modernity. The second chapter analyzes the urban space in Dostoevsky's Peterborough and Wang Anyi's Shanghai. This paper selects three specific urban spaces that can expressthe consciousness of specific social strata, the small people's dwelling place: Licorice market and Shanghai Alley, the mirror image of metropolis: Nevsky Prospect and the Bund, the emotional outlet: Bistro and Cabaret Hall. These places are the best showrooms of the "underdeveloped modernism" in Peterborough and Shanghai, conveying Dostoevsky and Wang Anyi's exploration of human nature as well as their philosophy of "losing roots" and "seeking roots" in their respective nations. The third chapter sums up the image system of "the upper class","the little people who walk in the place" and "the intellectuals who wander outside"."Human World" relies on "space",and "space" has a reaction to "human world".The city is composed of people, people is the concentrated reflection of the city,at the same time the city also affects the development of people. The image system reflects the interplay between underdeveloped modernism and the "evil of man." Peterborough and Shanghai are two cities built by people who can not be used by the majority of those who live in them, flaunting modern "reason" makes people fall into the loss of faith. The conclusion summarizes the comparison between Dostoevsky's "Peterborough writing" and Wang Anyi's "Shanghai writing",and sums up their deep thinking on the process of modernization and their exploration of human nature.
