A Study On The Texture-Timbre Of Shostakovich's Symphony No.5

Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich(???????·??????????·??????????,1906-1975),the great Russian composer in twenty century,and one of the most important symphonist in Soviet Union.His compositions are of various types which contains piano solo,vocal music,Chamber,Opera,Ballet,film soundtracks,Concerto and Symphony,etc.Though the dictatorial political environment dispelled free invention from musical compositions of the time,Shostakovich still found ways to express his musical thoughts restively and honestly under the restrictions of freedom.His works embody the duality full of contradictions.Among the numerous compositions of Shostakovich,Symphony No.5 was most well-known in public.Symphony No.5 showed the maturity of Shostakovich's composing style,and it also brought a significant turning point to Shostakovich's career of composition.Symphony No.5 is succinct and clear,which combines the content perfectly with the form: Shostakovich used unique ways that add the liberty to the classical traditions.He also integrated his philosophical thoughts into his compositions.This article takes Symphony No.5 as the object to analyze.The thesis unfolds discussion from four parts:Chapter I: The overall introduction.Chapter II: A brief analysis of Shostakovich's lifetime,works style,composing features and the background of Symphony No.5.Chapter III: The body analyzes and generalizes Symphony No.5 on the basis of music texts.It mainly focus attention on four aspects: the orchestration techniques and resources,the timbre matching and exaggeration in vertical structure,the timbre expand in transverse structure and the orchestration layout.Chapter IV: Finally,the article summarizes the characteristics of the orchestration techniques of Symphony No.5.
