With the globalization of world economy and the challenges of cultural diversity,cultural soft power has become one of the most important indicators of a country's comprehensive national strength.In recent years,like other countries in the world,China has spared no efforts to promote its own language and culture.Among them,"Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students around the world has attracted more attention and become an important window for foreigners to understand Chinese language and culture.However,in the era of information explosion,it is difficult to achieve the ideal communication effect by soly relying on the traditional ideological and indoctrinated,hard communication methods.Therefore,in the process of international communication,China actively seeks a more flexible and friendly way to convey Chinese language and culture to the world.This method is the soft communication which is interactive,sharing,and life-oriented.Based on the theory of soft communication,this thesis analyzes the 2017-2019 "Chinese Bridge" Competition by using a qualitative and comparative approach.It makes a detailed analysis of the players' performance and the way in which the competition program is presented.Meanwhile,the feasibility of soft communication is illuminated by making a comparison between hard communication and soft commutation.After the elaboration on the communication elements in the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition,this thesis analyzes its mode of soft communication from three aspects: communicator-audience relationship,contents of communication and channel of communication within the theoretical framework of soft communication.The analysis shows that there is a two-way interaction between the communicators and the audience of the Competition.In terms of its contents of commutation,the Competition contextualized the information transmission through various and interesting activities.In terms of communication channel,"Chinese Bridge" Competition itself is a cross-media and diversified communication platform.The thesis concludes that the soft communication strategies of “Chinese Bridge”Competition has its practical significance: As a TV program,this competition plays an important role in the inheritance of Chinese culture and the spread of Chinese Civilization by pursuing good cultural tastes.Besides,as a Chinese proficiency competition,it promotes the spread of Chinese language culture and provides valuable experience for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Meanwhile,as an international communication activity,“Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition shows the image of China as a fast-developing great country to the world.In addition,the thesis also proposes corresponding development countermeasures,mainly in terms of enriching the content of the competition and strengthening overseas communication.
