A Study Of The Single-edged Sword With A Ring Pommel From Han Dynasty To Tang Dynasty

The single-edged sword with a ring pommel is a Chinese style's cold weapon.According to archaeological data,the iron single-edged sword with a ring pommel as a weapon appeared in large quantities in the central plains of Han Dynasty.With the development of steel smelting and forging technology,steel weapons began to be used in large-scale production.In the following hundreds of years,the single-edged sword with a ring pommel deeply influenced the development of cold weapons in China.Its image appeared on artistic subjects such as pictorial carved stone,pictorial moulded brick,murals and so on.Because of its distinctive ring pommel,it also has a profound influence on ancient Chinese culture.On the basis of collecting and combing the data comprehensively and systematically,this paper will make a research on the single-edged sword with a ring pommel in the Han Dynasty to Tang Dynasty from the following four aspects.First,the current unearthed the single-edged sword with a ring pommel from the Han Dynasty to Tang Dynasty were collected and sorted out comprehensively and systematically,and sorted out according to the period and the unearthed tomb respectively.Second,the function of the single-edged sword with a ring pommel in the Han Dynasty to Tang Dynasty dynasties includes three aspects: weapon,ceremonial wearing and bright ware.Thirdly,the development and evolution process of the single-edged sword with a ring pommel in the Han to Tang Dynasties was divided into three periods: the Han Dynasty,the Wei Jin Northern and Southern Dynasties,the Sui and Tang Dynasties.Fourth,the single-edged sword with a ring pommel had a great influence on Chinese traditional culture.Since the han dynasty,there have been records about the image and culture of " ring pommel ".The introduction of the Chinese single-edged sword with a ring pommel into Japan and Korea has also exerted a wide influence on the development of Chinese cutting tools,technology and culture.As the epitome of ancient material culture,the single-edged sword with a ring pommel contains meanings of military,culture,adornment,etiquette,handicraft industry,and cultural exchanges between China and other countries,has the value of deep researches.Through systematic research,it can fully reveal its connotation in Chinese traditional history and culture,indicating its unique meaning.
