This thesis is an English-Chinese translation report with its source text excerpted from Taking Sides: Clashing Views on Global Issues(seventh edition),co-authored by James E.Harf and Mark Owen Lombardi. The source text consists of two parts, respectively from Issue7,regarding facts of global warming, and Issue 9,concerning the impacts and future options of global drug policies. This book, offering a penetrating insight for domestic readers into realities, demonstrates viewpoints in opposition and has deep analysis on the underlying causes of global warming and drug abuse. It is certified that no Chinese version is available now.In view of this information-based source text, the author of this report has,in light of the“Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation(CEA)” framework of Li Changshuan of Beijing Foreign Studies University for non-literary translation, adopted translation techniques such as amplification, division, and the change of voices to analyse problems and provide solutions, mainly in terms of lexical gaps and differences in logic and order of sentences between English and Chinese. The author of the report has obtained a closer acquaintance of the evidence of global warming as well as the content and influence of the global drug policy,a clearer understanding of the CEA framework and a wider experience in the translating of informative texts through this translation practice. Moreover, the author has also realized the high translation abilities and language attainments that a translator truly needs in rendering a good version.
