The content of this translation practice report is selected from Taking Sides: Clashing Views on Psychological Issue. This book introduces different topics and gives two different views, positive and negative. It aims to increase people's ability to distinguish things and stimulate critical thinking through case study. The author chooses the eighth topic of the book to discuss whether fathers are indispensable to children.Based on experimental investigation and data analysis, the author makes a scientific and objective discussion on the topic. There are about 10,000 words in the translated materials, which are translated into Chinese and analyzed by the author. This translation project belongs to information-based text. The author has completed this translation practice with Newmark's communicative translation theory.Newmark clearly points out that in communicative translation, the translator has the right to correct the illogicality of the original text so as to make the translation more logical, and to eliminate ambiguity by replacing the defective narrative of the original text with a graceful style or a functional and syntactic structure.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory, the author makes an analysis of this translation practice from three aspects: vocabulary, sentence and text. This translation report consists of four chapters.Chapter one describes the translation tasks, including the source of translation projects, the brief description of translation texts and the significance of translation projects.Chapter two introduces the process of translation, including the preparation before translation, the analysis and revision of the first draft and the final draft.Chapter three is case study.Guided by Newmark's communicative translation theory, the author makes an analysis and discussion of 25 cases by combining translation methods such as addition, sentence splitting and sentence structure reorganization.Chapter Four is a summary of translation practice. The author analyses the difficulties encountered in translation practice and summarizes the solutions. On this basis,he deepens his understanding of translation and accumulates more practical experience for his future translation work.
