Historical literature can often broaden the horizon, improve humanistic literacy, and provide reflection materials to learn from the past so as to enlighten people's wisdom.Undoubtedly, the translation of The Revolution in Ireland,1879-1923 edited by D.G.Boyce is of great significance. The original material of this practice report is excerpted from The Revolution in Ireland,1879-1923,with a total of 11370 words. This book was structured around the topic of “revolution” and gave a detailed description of the relationship between Britain and Ireland, land movement and the Irish home rule movement. The book is a piece of literary work.As a supplementary content of historical textbooks,it has a strict structure, clear regulations and powerful argument. The book involves a lot of Irish historical and cultural knowledge and provides excellent translation practice materials. In this translation practice report, the translator takes Gorlée's translation semiotics as the main guiding theory and adopts certain translation skills and methods in case analysis. This translation practice report consists of five parts including introduction, task description, translation process, case analysis and summary. The translator finished the formulation of glossary and the selection of parallel texts in the preparation, the use of translation tools and literature inquiry in the translation process,as well as case analysis and the evaluation after the completion. The standardization of the whole translation process plays a positive role in improving the translation efficiency and quality. In the process of translation, the translator also encountered many difficulties, such as the translation of some proper nouns, the processing of long and difficult sentences, and the problem of beliefs in the final translation. The translator tries to make proper adjustments to the sentence structure on the premise of the faithfulness and expressiveness of the translation.Among them, the translation of proper names, the use of four-character pattern and the addition of category words also improved the readability of the translation to a certain extent. The completion of this practice report can further deepen the understanding onIreland and enrich the research on Irish history. It can also be used for references in future translation practice of the relevant texts.
