This report deals with the translation of the book TRANSLATION IN A POSTCOLONIAL CONTEXT——Early Irish Literature in English Translation written by Maria Tymoczko. The translator selects Chapter One:The Metonymics of Translation as the original text. The translation of this book is of great help to Chinese scholars in learning more foreign translation theories and also helps improve Chinese translation studies. Under Reiss’s Text Typology, the translator chooses appropriate strategies solving the translation problems through an analysis on the different text types.Through an analysis on the translation problems, this report proposes appropriate translation strategies for the informative text, the expressive text and the operative text and explores the guiding significance of Reiss’s Text Typology to the translation of books on western translation studies. In accordance with Reiss’s Text Typology, the translator uses the translations methods such as division, restructuring and imitation to deal with the translation difficulties in the original.
