This is a report on translation practice of a political text, which is excerpted from International Relations by Paul Wilkinson,a Britain terrorism expert. This book talks about the emergence of nations or states, establishment of international relations and how various foreign policies adopted by different countries affect international relations, whose language is concise and meaning rich.Trough translating the selected chapters into Chinese and analyzing some typical examples, the translator intends to put emphasis on guidance of Skopos theory in the process of E-C translation and summarize related translation strategies, improve the translation skills and provide some new ideas for the translation of the similar texts later.Adopting the method of case analysis and starting from the perspective of Skopos theory, this thesis mainly elaborates the guiding role of this theory in the translation process of International Relations. The core of Skopos theory is that translators choose specific translation strategies and methods according to specific translation purposes. It can be summarized into three rules:Skopos rule, coherence rule(intralingual coherence),and the fidelity rule(interlingual coherence). In the translation process, the translator should follow the Skopos rule at first, that is,to achieve the purpose of the translation at first, and then follow the coherence rule which means to ensure the coherence of the translated version and to ensure it is readable and can be understood. In addition, the author should follow the fidelity rule, which is to be faithful to original text and the author's intention to ensure that the content of the original text is not modified or deleted at will.Starting from the perspective of Skopos theory and combining the translation practice of Chapters 1 and 2 of International Relations, the author used specific translation strategies and methods during the case analysis to ensure that the translated version can fully convey the original intention and hopes that it can provide a reference for the relevant texts.
