The original text of this translation report is Revisiting Metaphors in International Relations Theory by Michael P.Marks.The book was published in 2018 by Palgrave Macmillan,New York,USA.The author translates the fifth chapter of the book and wrote the translation report based on the previous three sections. After consulting, there is currently no Chinese translation of the book in China. In this chapter,Michael P.Marks first proposes that conceptual metaphors have an indispensable role in understanding the ontological foundations of international relations. Then,by enumerating a large number of facts and illustrations, the two concepts of conceptual metaphor and analogy metaphor and their role in the study of international relations theory are compared and analyzed. At the same time,he systematically sorts out the metaphor research of international relations scholars and makes a critical analysis of some scholars' viewpoints. On the basis of this reflection,he sums up the role of metaphor in the theory of international relations and how to treat it correctly. In particular,in the end,he also proposes that in addition to studying the metaphor itself, some other issues should be studied in order to better discover other metaphorical concepts and their role in the theory of international relations. The translation report is mainly made up of four parts. The first part is a brief introduction to the translation material, the author and the works;the second part is an overall description of the translation process, including preparations for translation, difficulties in the process of translation, and the improvement, polishment and final draft;the third part is the detailed analysis of the translation cases, selected from the translation text at four levels: lexical terms, syntax, discourse and culture;the last part is the summary of the translation practice in terms of retrospect and experience about this translation practice,in the hope of guiding the future translation.
