Note-taking is an indispensable tool in consecutive interpretation. However, the author has learned through practice that not all notes can play a positive role, and invalid notes will greatly affect the performance of consecutive interpretation. The thesis mainly studies the problem of invalid notes based on the mock conference by Ian Newton on humanitarian assistance and refugee problems during the covid-19 epidemic.First,it discusses the importance of note-taking and summarizes the characteristics of good notes. After comparing recording transcription with notes,it is concluded that notetaking is the biggest factor in the performance of the case.Invalid notes can be divided into three categories, namely improper choice of symbol and abbreviation, omission of key information and poor structure. For each type, the thesis analyzes the reasons in detail, and proposes three solutions, namely, practicing symbols and structure, enhancing the ability of information analysis and improving effort allocation strategy. Each strategy is further illustrated with examples. The purpose of the thesis is to help interpreters with problems in notes improve their note-taking ability.
