It is the pursuit of ideal translation that readers of target language can obtain the same reading experience as readers of source language. However, cultural and background differences will lead to translation loss.In the process of reading religious and scientific dialogue texts, readers may have difficulties in understanding some paragraphs, sentences or words containing religious and scientific elements,or even some expressions. If the translation tends to preserve the structure or the original meaning of the words in the source text,it will pose obstacles for the readers to understand.Guided by the three principles of Skopos theory(Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule),the translator uses the translation compensation strategies to analyze the translation of Preface,Preview,Chapter1 and Chapter2 of Belonging to the Universe:Explorations on the Frontiers of Science and Frontiers. This book is a dialogue on science and religion, and it explores parallels between ways of thinking in science and Christian theology and shows an entirely new way of thinking about life and the universe. The language of this book is succinct and vivid with plenty of examples and some interesting stories, but there are also some expressions or sentences with religious and scientific elements which is not easy to understand. For the parts that are vivid, interesting and easy to understand, the translator hopes that Chinese readers will have the same experience as the English-speaking readers, while for the parts that are abstract and difficult, the translator hopes that the Chinese readers will have a better understanding of them.So the translator adopts compensation strategies and illustrates how, through these strategies under Skopos theory,to convey the content more vividly and accurately to the Chinese readers. This report combines Skopos theory with translation compensation strategies to make a more comprehensive analysis of the translation, which can also enable the translator to understand and master this method to accurately convey the information in the original text,so as to give the readers a fresh reading experience.
