Disfluency In Chinese-English Consecutive Interpretation And Coping Strategies

Fluency is a very important criteria for evaluating the quality of interpretation.Disfluency in interpreting will greatly hamper the delivery of message and information.For audience,it's difficult for them to get the general idea of the source context.For interpreters,they may be more anxious and nervous when it comes to too many disfluencies.Therefore,it is important for interpreters to reduce disfluencies in interpreting.The paper gives the definition of the disfluency,and classifies disfluency phenomena as improper suspension,self-correction and repetition.Based on this classification,the author analyzes the disfluencies occurring in interpreting for the mock conference.The paper concludes four causes of disfluency: lack of preparation,improper notes,poor language skills and anxiety,and proposes four solutions: adequate preparation before interpreting,improving the noting system,enhancing language competence and regulating the psychological state.
