Factors Of Disfluency In Consecutive Interpretation And Its Coping Strategies

Disfluency is a common phenomenon in human's communication activity.Fluency in expression means that the audience will be more willing to listen to and believe in what the speaker has said.In consecutive interpretation,one of the most important yardsticks to evaluate an interpreter's performance is fluency.Disfluency in interpretation will not only hinder the production of information by interpreters,but also raise doubt about the interpreters' ability.In this thesis,the author explores the negative impacts brought by disfluency in interpretation.By by citing examples from the author's interpretation cases in a speech by Professor John Mearsheimer,the author seeks to analyze the causes of disfluency from the perspective of effort allocation,note-taking,deverbalization,background knowledge and specific terms.To tackle these challenges in interpretation,the author also puts forward a host of corresponding strategies to address them with an aim to improve fluency in interpretation.
