Texture Features And Translation Strategies Of Narrative In Chinese Games

With a booming games market in China,more and more Chinese game publishers have begun to focus on the international market and move towards globalization.In the process of Chinese games going global,the quality of translation plays a crucial role,which affects the game experience of foreign players.High-quality translation serve as a decisive factor to the popularity of Chinese games in overseas markets.However,currently most research on game translation is about translating English into Chinese,and there are few studies on the Chinese-English translation of domestic games.Based on the Chinese-English translation project of a domestic mobile game,this thesis analyzes the texture features of game narrative and concludes Chinese-English translation strategies.Different from other types of text,game narrative has the following features: subject to certain space constraints,using colloquial language and containing many four-character words,Chinese idioms and other expressions with Chinese characteristics.In view of these features,the thesis states that when translating this type of text,a condensed translation method should be adopted,including compressing original text and deleting and modifying repetitive information.Translators should use simple words and sentences to make the language of translation easy to understand,select proper modal particles and add omitted information.As for the translation of Chinese culture-loaded words,three kinds of strategies can be adopted,namely paraphrase,naturalization and ellipsis.This thesis aims at providing some useful suggestions and strategies for the translation of Chinese games,thus helping more excellent Chinese games go global.
