The present thesis is a practice report on listening and translation on Live: Campus Crawl Ep.2——Tsinghua University,by CGTN,a difficult-to-translate text featuring its colloquial expressions and rich discourse markers of diversified pragmatic functions.Well as a discourse marker is such a challenge in this project.Although there has been some research on the translation of well, they focus on daily discourses and show the inadequacy of the research of well in interview videos. This thesis, based on cases from the text, classifies the functions of well in the video into conversation organization, interpersonal relationship and information updating. Then, under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence, the translation strategies of well are analyzed in context where interjection, phrase and non-translation are upheld to realize pragmatic equivalence.Based on the above research, this thesis holds that the pragmatic function of discourse markers is dynamic and should be analyzed in context and according to their text types.Translators should adopt flexible translation strategies to ensure functional equivalence between texts and attach significance to the translation of interview videos for foreign publicity in an attempt to promote Chinese culture soft power.
