With the continuous development of globalization, cultural exchanges between countries and nations are becoming more frequent and the degree of cultural integration is deepening.Literary works have always played an important role as the media in this process, and the translation of literary works have also been a hot topic. This thesis is a translation report, which is based on the four chapters translated by the translator from a graphic novel — The Best We Could Do — written by a Vietnamese American writer who witnessed the Vietnam War.The novel described the influence of Vietnam War on the generation that went through the war and illustrated the efforts made by writer's family to survive in the war.The suffering and helplessness brought to people by the war was vividly reproduced by this novel. The whole process of translation is under the guidance of Eugene A·Nida's functional equivalence theory. The translator tries to accurately convey the information of source text by seeking the appropriate translation methods and strategies after the analysis of the structure and feature of the source text. This translation report aims to find the way that how to reproduce the true feelings and thoughts expressed by the writer in source novel to target readers so that they can truly feel the pain and helplessness of the generation who experienced the war after reading the translation of this novel.
