As a means of cross-cultural communication, translation plays a crucial part in advancing cultural exchange among countries all over the world. The source text of this translation report is excerpted from the novel of I Say No written by William Willkie Collins. The original text is based on detective reasoning, mainly about Emily, the heroine, through a series of fortuitous coincidences, finally learned the truth about her father's death.I Say No,the source text studied in this paper,is foreign popular literature. It focuses on the readership,so it requires the translation to be easy to understand and accessible for target language readers. The author of this report,in the perspective of communicative translation theory, analyzes the application of communicative translation theory to the translation of this source text on the basis of fully understanding the source text and combining with translation cases. And the author of this report makes a conclusion of this translation project in the last part of the thesis. For the translation problems that the author of this report encountered in the process of translating this source text, the author of this report divides them into two categories, including the translation at lexical level and the translation at sentence level.Besides, under the guidance of the communicative translation, the author of this report, combining with her own translation practice experience and the context of source text, mainly discusses such problems as the translation of prepositions,of passive voice and of characters' appearance and environment. And from the perspective of communicative translation theory, the author of this report mainly adopts different translation strategies and methods such as word formation, voice conversion and addition according to different translation problems. It verifies the rationality and operability of communicative translation theory in translation practice. The author of this report hopes that this translation report can be of use to the relevant translators in the future.
