Because Chinese has no strict morphological changes,its grammatical meaning is realized through word order and function words.Prepositions are indispensable function words in Chinese language.Good grasp of prepositions is one of the prerequisites for improving Chinese language skill.With the continuous spread of Chinese language,scholars pay more and more attention to the teaching and research of prepositions.Although there are few prepositions in Chinese language,yet there are many types,including time,object,purpose,contrast,passive preposition and many other types.Prepositions pay more attention to word order and word collocation;therefore,Chinese learners often make mistakes while using Chinese prepositions.The author is an international student from Nigeria whose mother tongue is Igbo language.The author also acknowledges encountering problems during the course of learning Chinese prepositions especially at beginning level of Chinese language learning.This article takes Nigerian students whose mother tongue is Igbo language as the research object,and collects,organizes,and analyzes the Chinese grammar assignments for students of the Confucius Institute at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Nigeria(objective prepositions "对","向"," 给"),combined with the results of the questionnaire,this paper focuses on the analysis of the errors encountered by Nigerian students whose mother tongue is Igbo while using the target prepositions "对","向","给".There are mainly four types of errors experienced by the learners;order,redundancy,omission,and substitution.The causes of these errors include many aspects such as mother tongue,target language,teaching materials,learning methods,teaching strategies and so on.Based on the analysis of the types of errors and the analysis of the causes of errors,this article also puts forward targeted suggestions from the three levels of students,teachers,and textbooks,hoping that Nigerian students whose mother tongue is Igbo language can master the Chinese target Prepositions well,and hope the research work can provide practical references and suggestions for teachers of Chinese as a foreign language in teaching practice.
