There are a certain number of translated novels in modern Lingnan press novels.Like the translated novels of newspapers and periodicals in other regions in modern times,these translated novels published in Lingnan newspapers and periodicals are also a different kind of wave in the tide of modern translated novels.According to statistics,there are as many as 34 kinds of newspapers and periodicals that published translated novels in the modern Lingnan area.There are 101 translated novels,a collection of fable stories(Chinese translation of "Aesop's Fables",with 82 fables),and at least 38 types separate editions of translated novels.It can be seen that modern Lingnan press translation novels have a certain scale and have achieved certain achievements.This article regards it as the research object,except for the introduction and conclusion,it is divided into four chapters.The first chapter explores the background of its rise,involving four factors: the revolution in the novel world,the regional culture in Lingnan,the source of the translator,and the reader and the market.And to sort out its development context,it can be divided into four stages: the budding period,the development period,the prosperity period and the decline period.The second chapter excavates its artistic characteristics and cultural values,which is shown as having the same general characteristics as the modern newspaper translation novels.While presenting traditional novel characteristics and cultural concepts,it also contains Western novel characteristics and cultural concepts.It also highlights the regional cultural colors of Lingnan,such as Cantonese dialect,Lingnan customs and folk sentiment,Lingnan painting factions and Lingnan revolutionary trend.Chapter 3 conducts case studies on the translation of prominent journals and famous articles.Different newspapers and periodicals have different concepts and editorial teams,which have a certain impact on the published translated novels.It also pays attention to the translation and introduction of world-renowned books in modern Lingnan newspapers and periodicals,focusing on the relationship between the translated works and the original works,and exploring the methods of translation and introduction.Chapter 4 examines its influence on self-written novels,such as the innovation of concepts,the expansion of themes,and the breakthrough of novel narrative techniques.Finally,it summarizes its achievements and defects,and evaluates its status in the history of Lingnan novels and translation novels.
