Healing in His Hands is an inspirational autobiographical novel written by Cheryl Ann Brown.The novel illustrates the author who lived in a family as miserable as a concentration camp and had been hurt in childhood.The author constantly seeks ways to change herself and overcome these difficulties.This book narrates how the author can overcome difficulties,hoping to help people who are facing similar difficulties.The preface to the fourth chapter are selected as translation materials,which is guided by Di Jin's Equivalent Effect Theory.Di Jin proposes that the effect of translation on receivers(audiences or readers)should be basically the same as that of the original text.On the basis of the theory,the translator,taking acceptability into account,first analyzes it from lexical level with free translation,addition,conversion and four-character translation.Then translator analyzes it from syntactic level with liner translation and reverse translation so as to let the effect of the translation on readers is basically the same as that of the original text on its readers.The translation report is divided into five parts.The first part is an overview of translation task,which mainly includes background,purposes and significance of research.The second part states translation process,including preparation,translation process and proofreading.The third part is theoretical overview,which illustrates Equivalent Effect Theory,literature review and research status.The fourth part is a typical case study,which is divided into lexical and syntactic level and finally comes to tentative summary.The fifth part summarizes translation practice,which includes its harvest,shortcomings and future suggestions.This translation practice is aimed to study the translation of foreign autobiographical novels under the guidance of Di Jin's Equivalent Effect Theory.However,it is unavoidable that there are some limitations,such as overemphasizing receivers and neglecting transmission of form and content of the original.In addition,translator's understanding and control of the original text are also affected by language environment and cultural background.Through this translation practice,translator strives for continuous progress and improves translation competence in the future.
