The Research On The Government Authority's Weakening In The Perspective Of Media Situational Theory

In order to maintain the ordered development of the society,as the main social-management organization,the mission of the government is to safeguard the public interest.Especially to China,which is being in a period of transition,a government with strong force of prestige is very important for the maintenance of social order.Government authority is the governmental legitimacy extension and the basis of social stability.However,we are in a period of rapid social transformation,the political scientist and administration scholars have fully demonstrated that the government authority is weakening.In this paper,it will make use of another perspective to analyze the process of weakened governmental authority.The new viewing angle,which is called Media situational theory,was created by a famous Communication scholar who is named Joshua Meyrowitz.This thesis will analyze the relationship among government authority,new information scenes and the public attitudes toward government on a vision of the giant communication environment.The government authority is established in three dimensions:information monopoly,denying the presence of the backstage as well as the controlling of a specific scene.But when a new form of media emerges,the public attitude towards the government will change in accordance with the direction of a predictable direction.The Internet,which is a totally new medium compared with the broadcasting and TVS,is breaking the isolation of information environment and helps to form an integrated information system.Due to the characteristics of the Internet medium itself,it greatly enhances people's desire of information control and decrease the difficulty in participating in the public affairs as well as the governments'backstage,which results in the quick merge of different scenes such as former district and backstage.Next,people start to neglect the connection of physical location and information environment.At last,the result is the government authority is becoming weak and weak because of the vague boundary of scenes,the exposure of the backstage and the threat to the territory of scenes.At the same time,the government also begins to re-examine their own image,it intends to reshape the image of government and to reverse the weakening through a series of middle area behaviors.
