With the development of our social economy and society, and the deepening reform of government management system, promoting orderly public participation during the process of public policies-making becomes an innovative way to help social governance. It is also a necessity of improving the system of socialist democracy. There is a certain correlation between the mass media and the public participation in the process of public policy making. As an important platform for citizens to express their requirements, the traditional media offers an important way for the public to participate in the political life, which also provides a major position for public participation in public governance. It works as the bridge and the link among government, society and the public, which is also an important carrier of public management scientification and democratization.Under the background of the Internet, traditional media are facing new contradictions and challenges in the process of public participation. With the rapid development of social media, the public are more enthusiastic about network political participation. While the traditional media has strict management and control system, the discourse power and dominance of the mainstream traditional media has been resolved. The public became less dependent on participating public life through the traditional media. In order to change the dilemma,Wuxi Radio and Television Group and other traditional media organizations worked actively to explore innovative ways to encourage public participation in social governance. This is a matter of concern. At the same time, the social media also encountered some obstacles, such as the digital division, information cocoons, and rational barriers in the practice of public participation. With the advantages of credibility, authority and strong human resources, traditional media integrates new media and new technology to achieve continuous exploration and innovation, making the coordination with social media the trend during the process of public participation. In the Internet era,the traditional media need to carry out the reconstruction of the role, the mode, the node, the system and the main body in the process of public participation. The traditional media is the important "one element" in the plural social governance structure, which can effectively supervise the operation of government power and help the government to improve the efficiency and the level of governance. In the process of public participation, the traditional media is not only the "mouthpiece" of the party and the government, which presents the official position, but also transmits public opinions. It gathers public opinions, and becomes the mediator between the government and the public, which further promotes the dialogue and reaches a social consensus. In the meanwhile,in the age of the Internet,a new pattern has emerged: the traditional media and social media has been increasingly crossed, complementary, and coordinated. They have made full use of their advantages to promote the agenda setting effectively and jointly, and further guide the public to participate in public decision-making and social governance in a better way.
