Single parenting phenomenon is now becoming a global issue which deprive many students in schools the opportunity to attain excellence now and excellent labor factor for national productivity and progress.This study researched about the roles of government in solving challenges facing single parented secondary students in Tanzania.A case of Kinondoni Municipality.Specifically,the study was to find out strategies put in place by government to ensure single parented students are able to achieve quality education in secondary schools;to examine government policies that safeguard interests of single parented students in secondary schools;and to identify problems and challenges facing educators in addressing the problems of single parented students in Tanzania.A total of 488 respondents were included from Kinondoni Municipality were included in this study,whereby 464 respondents were single-parented secondary students,16 were teachers(educators)and 8 were heads of secondary schools.Data collection was done by using structured and semi structured questionnaire to obtain both quantitative and qualitative data.Interview of key informants and focus group discussion were used to obtain relevant information.Data analysis was done based on descriptive statistics(frequency and percentage)and linear regression analysis.Data were presented by using texts,graphs and tables to illustrate findings.Based on the empirical evidence of this study,the findings show that there was a little contribution between the established strategies and solving challenges of single parented students.The findings also show the positive relationship between training educators about how to implement existed policies and safeguarding the interests of single parented students.The study also discovered that,there is a statistical significance between enforcing rules and regulations by the government and solving the challenges of single parented secondary school students.Moreover,it is evidenced that solving the problems facing single parented students is challenged some problems to educators,the identified problems included inadequate government support,difficult working condition,lack of transparency,discipline issues and difficulties to deal with stressed students.
