The Amish are a group of religious minority who live in the United States. They adhere to the ideology of Gelassenheit and nonresistance since they immigrated to North American colonies.Nevertheless, with the coming of twentieth Century, the conflict between the Amish and the local governments, which concerned with the compulsory education composed on the Amish children, appeared and escalated continuously.Until Supreme Court of the United States made the final judgment of Wisconsin v.Yoder whose decision settled the conflict, the education war has been continued for decades. From Reynolds v.United States(1879)to Sherbert v.Verner(1963),The Supreme Court of the United States has gradually included the behavior which motived by religious belief in the shadow of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. The theoretical progress is exactly the primary element that shaped the Yoder case.In addition,Yoder reacted upon the theory of the Free Exercise Clause, preserving the continuity of free exercise theory from 1960s to 1990s by cooperating with Sherbert.
