Intergenerational Support And Life Satisfaction Of The Elderly

This paper mainly studies the influence of Mutual intergenerational support between the elderly and children on the life satisfaction of the elderly and the process mechanisms.It also discusses the impact of intergenerational support on the health of the elderly.The determination of this study topic is based on the review and analysis of the Previous studies.Based on Grossman's The Demand for Health Capital theory to establish an the-oretical framework,the health status of the elderly is looked as a kind of capital which is both an investment product and a consumer product.Took health as investment products the elderly invest in health capital to increase the stock of healthy capital and reduce the depreciation of healthy capital.The capital will produce health time and gain utility,while the health capital as a consumer product will have a direct effect on satisfaction;this article obtains the four aspects of generational support,the economic support of the elderly from their children,elderly provides financial support for the children,the daily care of the children,take care of the grandchildren,we analyzed how each of them af-fected the health status of the elderly through factors that affect the elderly's investment in and consumption of healthy capital,thereby affecting the effectiveness of the elderly,that is,the degree of satisfaction obtained from them.Based on the theoretical analysis,then using data from the 2015 China Health and retirement longitudinal Study(CHARLS),through the processing of data,Three Binary logistic regression models were established,they were about intergenerational support and life satisfaction of the elderly,intergenerational support and health status of the el-derly,and the intergenerational support,health and life satisfaction of the elderly Then according to Baron and Kenny's mediation test procedures,were adopted for the four variables of obtaining economic support,providing financial support,daily care,and in-tergenerational care to test whether the mediation effect existing.finally it has been iden-tified health status worked as the mediator between intergenerational support and life satisfaction of the elderly.While examining the mediation effects,the differences in the effects of obtaining support(acquiring financial support and daily care),providing sup-port(providing economic support and intergenerational care)on the elderlv's life satis-faction were also analyzed,and it was found that obtaining support have a significant positive impact on the elderly's life.effect,and providing support will reduce seniors' life satisfaction.
