The Study On Social Adaptation Of Elderly Immigrants From The Perspective Of Intergenerational Relations

With the acceleration of urbanization and the increase of floating population,more and more elderly immigrants have left their native land to come to cities and lived with their children.This study will call this group “elderly immigrants”.Whether it is the national policy or the community level,the corresponding guarantees and services are not in place.High medical costs,troubles of reimbursement in different places,the lack of different social resources,such as the inconvenient living habits and values of medical expenses,have made it difficult for elderly immigrants to adapt to the new environment.The family factor is often the main motive to promote the relocation of elderly immigrants.After the relocation,the family has become the main activity site.And intergenerational relationships have important influence on the social adaptation of them.Therefore,this study takes the influence of intergenerational relations on the social adaptation of elderly immigrants as the core content of the study.Using the snowball sampling method,selecting 20 elderly immigrants in the H community of Kunming City as survey objects,using semi-structured interviews and observations to collect research data.This study is based on the theory of “Intergenerational Ambivalence” and analyzes the social adaptability of elderly immigrants with the three dimensions as adaptation of life,adaptation of social interactions,and psychological adaptation.Showing the intergenerational solidarity and intergenerational conflict of elderly immigrants' intergenerational relationship and also analyzing the positive and negative effects of the intergenerational relationships.The study finds that the social adaptation situation of each elderly immigrant is different.But on the whole,the adaptation of elderly immigrants in terms of living is relatively easy,the adaptation of social relations are the next,and the psychological adaptation is the most difficult.Intergenerational solidarity and intergenerational conflict are two forms of expression in the intergenerational relationship.They are not the relationship between the two sides,and they both exist in the intergenerational relationship at the same time.Sometimes they will transform into each other.Thepositive effects of intergenerational relationships on the social adaptation of elderly immigrants include accelerating the adaptation of life,the relationship adaptation and psychological adaptation.The negative effects on the elderly immigrants include affecting the psychological status of the relocating old people,prompting them to change their adaptation strategies,and may even force the elderly immigrant to interrupt the adaptation process.
