Marx And Engels' View Of China And Its Contemporary Values

Marx and Engels' views on China are the general and fundamental views of the founders of Marxism on China.Currently,it is generally believed Marx and Engels are not faithful fans of ‘Europe-centered ideology' in academic circles.However,relatively speaking,the attention to Marx and Engels' Chinese discourse is far from enough.In fact,classical writers have written more than 100,000 words on China,involving more than 800 pieces of 150 works.Among them,there are 13 articles that directly oriented to China's problems.In the face of such a theoretical treasure which contains a huge Chinese complex,in-depth research and systematic interpretation that following textual logic are required to carried out in the case of historical context.Marx and Engels' view of China is not groundless subjective speculation,but has its own ideological source and theoretical basis.Based on the early European scholars' cognition of China,Marx and Engels' theory of world history,social formation and oriental society,this paper made a comprehensive interpretation and practical evaluation on Marx and Engels' View of China which grounded on ancient,modern and future historical dimensions.In the early 1930 s and 1940 s,consulting to the western impression of China,Marx and Engels praised the far-reaching "three great inventions" and concluded that ancient China was a "precocious civilized child".During the early 1950 s and 1960 s,through the concern of the Sino-British war,Marx and Engels revealed the feudal conservatism and decadent ignorance of China and made an evaluation that modern China was a model of "stagnant mode of production".In the late 1860 s,based on the civilization of ancient China and the judgment of modern China,Marx and Engels convinced of the inevitable victory of the Chinese Revolution and China's possible future status.They hold that China will surely become "the dawn of a new era in Asia." Undoubtedly,a series of scientific judgments and incisive expositions made by Marx and Engels on China should be comprehensively analyzed.As it has important theoretical value for deepening the theory of world history,perfecting the theory of social formation and enriching the theory of oriental society.Moreover,it is of great practical significance to boost the "four self-confidence",enlighten the Chinese Dream,and coordinate the human destiny community.
