In October 1949,Xinjiang ushered in peaceful liberation during the national celebration. The liberation of Xinjiang was not peaceful. On the one hand, there were still a large number of bandits in Xinjiang and some remnants of the Kuomintang had not been eliminated. On the other hand, the United States,India, the United Kingdom, and other countries have also plotted against Xinjiang in an attempt to split Xinjiang. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China,Xinjiang had a population of 1.63 million square kilometers and only 4.33 million people.More than 5,600 kilometers of border lines have long been guarded against borders. For the sake of national security and territorial integrity, central leaders such as Mao Zedong,Zhu De,and Peng Dehuai have formulated policies that allow170,000 troops stationed in Xinjiang to take roots and establish a nation. The army's 170,000 officers and soldiers faced many practical problems such as lack of materials, bandits, and difficulties in getting married, etc.,in Xinjiang. The most embarrassing one is the marital problems of the officers and soldiers.Taking into account the fact that there are fewer Han women in Xinjiang and that Han soldiers cannot intermarry with ethnic minority women due to differences in religious beliefs,Wang Zhen, the then leader of the Xinjiang Military Region, requested the Central Government to recruit a large number of unmarried young women from the Mainland to Xinjiang. The officers and soldiers of the Zang Autonomous Region set up families to survive and expand and jointly develop and build new Xinjiang. It is against this historical background that a large number of unmarried women and young people have gone to Xinjiang from the places of Hunan,Shandong,Shanghai,Shaanxi,Gansu, and Henan to join the army, support frontier construction,or take the family's name. All the way west, they overcome all kinds of difficulties such as disease, motion sickness, bandit attacks, eating habits, etc.,and finally reach the Xinjiang to be developed and constructed. After entering Xinjiang, they quickly adapted to the new environment and began new work in a short period of time.In the course of their work, they either formed their own small family through free love or joined forces with the officers and men in Xinjiang through organizing and personally agreeing. It is precisely because of their arrival that the majority of soldiers stationed in Xinjiang can take root in the frontier and settle down in succession. Thanks to their joint efforts with their families,Xinjiang's agriculture, industry, health care, education, and transportation industries have been weak and strong, and the former wasteland has become an oasis of prosperity today. The ethnic relations in Xinjiang have also been further developed and integrated.Without their feats more than 60 years ago, there would be no prosperity and stability in Xinjiang today. For the development and construction of Xinjiang, they truly made a“dedication to their children and youth”.The Xinjiang Peace Medal has half their credit. The motherland and history should not and cannot forget them.
