In Marxist philosophy, equality is not a theoretical category specially discussed, but this does not mean that Marx does not pay attention to equality. In fact,Marx never gave up thinking about equality all his life, and the related ideas are scattered in his numerous works.Criticism of the Gotha Programme,as an important theoretical achievement in Marx's later years,is the embodiment of his mature concept of equality.Marx's equality thought has undergone a process of occurrence and development. From the revelation and reflection on inequality in his youth,to the initial establishment of the ideological system of equality in the period of historical materialism,to the revelation and deconstruction of modern equality principles in the period of economic research,Marx's thought of equality has gradually become a system.Until Criticism of the Gotha Programme,Marx's equality thought had a more mature expression. In this book,Marx made a comprehensive liquidation of the Lassalle's remarks in the German Worker's Party Program, and on this basis revealed the bourgeois nature of"equal rights".The elaboration of his equality thought follows two principles:one is the criticism of bourgeois"equal rights" and the other is the elucidation of the possible path of equality in communist society.Marx first criticized the hypocrisy, abstractness and false of equality of rights in the context of bourgeois legal power, and then explained the significance of equality in the first class of communist society and the purpose of being surpassed in the advanced stage of communist society. So far,Marx's equality thought has formed a relatively complete system.Unlike the previous theory of equality,Marx, with his basic standpoint of historical materialism, proceeded from realistic people, followed the logic of abolishing the problem, based on reality and looking into the future, not only saw the stage significance of equality, but also saw the historical destiny that it would be ultimately surpass, thus establishing a new concept of equality of historical materialism.
