In the context of the Belt and Road Initiative,it is of great significance to study the urban transportation network and economic network structure characteristics of western China. It is of great significance to fully interpret the spatial structure and development characteristics of western China's urban agglomerations and to find out the development status of western cities. This paper takes the Silk Road Economic Belt as the starting point and research background, selects the western provinces of China: Shaanxi,Gansu,Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Qinghai as the research area, using Tencent's location big data and urban economic and population data as the basic data of the study.Based on the theory of flow space, gravity model, and social network analysis method, the indicators such as network centrality, connection degree, network density and subgroup structure are measured to analyze the organizational model and morphological characteristics of the western urban agglomeration transportation network and economic network. On the basis of finding out the two network structures, the two are compared and researched to find the similarity and difference between the transportation network and the economic network, and then propose the future development of the city. The innovation of the research is to use a variety of data to study the urban spatial structure from different perspectives,so that the research results are more comprehensive and accurate.Through the network comparison research,we find the similarity and difference of urban spatial structure from different perspectives,so as to achieve a more comprehensive and deep understanding of the urban agglomeration. The study mainly draws the following conclusions:(1)The density of economic networks and transportation networks in northwestern cities are at a low level. Both economic development and transportation development lag behind developed eastern regions. The two networks are similar in structure, with spatial polarization and obvious hierarchical structure.(2)There is consistency in the development of transportation networks and economic networks in the northwestern region.Transportation development promotes economic exchanges between cities, and urban economic development in turn has a guiding role in the location of transportation nodes.(3)Inter-city relations in economic networks are more affected by geographical proximity than transportation networks.Transportation networks pay more attention to the fair distribution of transportation hubs and the convenience of inter-city transportation connections, while the hub cities of economic networks are mainly affected by regional economies. The impact of development, economic development is more clustered, and there are characteristics of regional development.(4)Future development should take into account transportation development and economic development. The future development of the northwest region should be based on understanding the characteristics of the two networks, conforming to the development advantages of the existing economy and transportation, and paying attention to the economic development of some cities such as Jiuquan,Jiayuguan,Weinan and Qingyang. The city is not only a transportation hub,but also an economic center to tap the versatility of the edge cities. It is necessary to cultivate a new growth center in the region while playing a leading role in the core cities, thus forming a multi-center development model.
