The Study On China’s Image From The Reports Of Myanmar NLD Newspaper "D.Wave"

The national image is the public’s relatively stable evaluation of a country’s political,military,economic,national spirit,national character and national ideology.Studying the content of "D.Wave" from April 2016 to March 2018,which is the newspaper of Myanmar National League for Democracy(NLD),the image of China constructed by "D.Wave" was analyzed.The chapter 1 reviews the official relations and non-governmental exchanges between China and Myanmar in the three periods——from 1988 to 2010,from 2011 to 2017,and after the "Rohingya" incident in 2017.In the chapter 2,quantitative analysis is used to analyze the number of articles involved with different countries in "D.Wave"from a macro perspective.At the same time,the articles related to China are divided into three categories:positive report,negative report and neutral report.Then analyze the three categories articles according to quarter data,as well as historical,political,diplomatic,military,economic,resource development,humanities exchanges,social issues and other specific articles from a micro perspective.In the chapter 3,qualitative analysis and text analysis are used to analyze the content of the articles,summarizing five positive images and four negative images of China in the newspaper.In the chapter 4,infer the changing characteristics of the Chinese image built in the newspaper over time:In April 2016,the NLD is in power,and the attitude towards China in "D.Wave" tends to be negative.In August 2016,after Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who take office not long ago starting her first visit to China,the positive reports are more than negative ones.Especially after the "Rohingya" crisis in August 2017,the number of positive reports peaked and the words in the reports become more positive.From 2018 to 2019,China-US trade frictions caused the "D.W ave" to pay attention to the Chinese economy.Although some negative reports on the Chinese economy appeared,they did not affect the continued warming of China-Myanmar relations.The number of positive reports still maintains a stable and good situation.Finally,the main factors leading to this change are summarized:First,China’s strength is growing stronger,China and Myanmar are unchangeable neighboring relations.Second,the NLD Chairman Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attaches importance to China-Myanmar relations.Third,after 2017"Rohingya" crisis Myanmar faced condemnation from the Western,while China supports Myanmar.Fourth,the editor of the "D.Wave" is friendly to China.A good national image brings better support and international discourse power to China."D.Wave" is important and unique among the Myanmar media because it’s the newspaper of Myanmar’s ruling party.Therefore,studying the articles in "D.Wave" helps us understand NLD’s attitude towards China and the characteristics of China’s image that is built by Myanmar ruling party.It’s also of great significance to promote China-Myanmar relations and the inter-party exchanges between the Communist Party of China and the NLD.
