.In modern times,China and Japan faced the threat of being colonized by foreign powers at the same time. The thesis is discussed from four aspects. The first chapter compares the social background of China and Japan before the modern legal revolution, summarizes the similar social politics, external pressure and cultural structure, and compares the differences of social foundation between the two countries. The second chapter reviews the process of the modern legal system reform of the two countries, which is divided into two periods, namely the first stage from 1840 to 1894 and the continuation stage from 1894 to 1945.The third chapter summarizes the characteristics and reasons of the similarities and differences between the two countries in the modern legal system reform, and analyzes the gains and losses of the two countries in the modern legal system reform.Japan,on the other hand, got rid of the threat of being a semi-colony through legal reform, and formed a capitalist legal system, making Japan one of the capitalist powers. However, the influence of the modern legal system reform on the two countries was a double edged-sword.The legal system reform in the late Qing dynasty laid a foundation for the establishment of the "six laws" system of the republic of China, and the legal system reform in Japan also contained the factors leading to the destruction, that is,the unlimited expansion of the military forces eventually led to fascism. Finally, the article puts forward two points of experience for reference, hoping to draw lessons from history through comparison.
