The Development And Adjustment Of The Single Nationality System In China

Promulgated and implemented in 1980,The Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China is the first and only nationality law in China.It clearly stipulates that China's nationality policy is the single nationality system combining Principles of Jus Sanguinis and Jus Soli,where dual nationality is not recognized.However,with China's deepening foreign exchanges in various fields,natural person nationality conflict problems increase drastically.In the field of private international law,there has also been a shift from insisting on the single nationality to recognition,or tacit and restrictive recognition of dual nationality system.Apparently,the large number of dual nationality problems reflect the fact that China's nationality policy is unable to adapt to the current situation.It is important to formulate nationality policy according to the current situation while absorbing the successful experience and practice of other countries.China should carry out flexible and progressive nationality system reform in order to fully meet the needs of national development.
