Moderate consumption refers to a kind of consumption status that the human subjectmeets moderately the main aspects needs by the object to achieve self-realization,self-development, self-improvement. It reflects the consciousness and autonomy inthe human practice, and embodies the person’s freedom and comprehensivedevelopment, and the degree of social civilization. The current survival predicamentsuch as the global economic crisis, ecological crisis, to a large extent, can beattributed to human over-consumption. Moderate consumption is not only conduciveto social and economic growth, but also to alleviate the pressure on resources and theenvironment, therefore, from the socio-economic perspective, or from the point ofview of the ecological environment, moderate consumption is an effective way toresolve the current plight of human existence.China is currently in a critical period of building a comprehensive well-off society,and there are some irrational consumption patterns in the consumption areas, whichhinder the healthy and stable development of economy, damage to the environment,endanger the improvement of living conditions and the level of consumption. Thegrim reality urgently requires our depth and systematic research, theoretically, of whatis a moderate consumption, why should the moderate consumption, as well as how toachieve moderate consumption, to guide people into the well-off society byestablishing the moderate consumption.This paper under the guidance of Marxism consumption thought, learns and absorbsthe theoretical and practical results of moderate consumption in Chinese and Westernculture, analyzes the object of consumption and subject of consumption from aphilosophical perspective, clarifying the necessity of moderate consumption, anddiscusses in the end the realization of moderate consumption in China. The full textconsists of six parts, including introduction, and f five chapters.The part of introduction has paved the way to full-text, introducing the backgroundand significance of the thesis topics, summarizing the moderate consumption at homeand abroad, and describing the research ideas and methods. The first chapter has explained and analyzed the concept of moderate consumption.Analysis and definition of concept is the precondition of theoretical analysis, and aclear understanding and accurate understanding of the connotation, main content andother characteristics is a basis for further study foundation. This chapter as theopening of the paper, has a definition of the foundational problem such as the conceptof consumption, especially moderate consumption, and the explanation of its function,which lay a theoretical foundation for later analysis and argumentation.The second chapter, from the perspective of history, has been a historical survey ofconsumption. With the development of human civilization form as the clue, this paperanalyzes the features of original consumption, agriculture consumption, and industrialconsumption, and explores the theoretical origin of moderate consumption. In a word,the second chapter is to find a historical basis for the establishment of the concept ofmoderate consumption.The third chapter, from the perspective of the object, has showed the objectivenecessity of moderate consumption. The existence of the object is the premise of theconsumption, and the degree of scarcity of the object is restricted the degree ofconsumption. Therefore, based on the objective constraints, this chapter has summedup the three opposition and conflict in the consumption activities of subject and object,and illustrated that the consumption must be restricted by the object. It is the threeopposition and conflict that make the Nature and its laws gradually emerge, whichdraw lessons objectively to the subject, point to a clear direction to adjust theirconsumption activity, promote the subject to choose moderate consumption andrealize the conformity to objectives and regularity.The fourth chapter, from the perspective of the subject, has analyzed the necessity andreasonableness of the moderate consumption. Consumption originates from humanneeds. Moderate consumption is required to meet the human needs. However, if thesubject greatly inflated the pursuit of material comfort regardless of the consequences,it will go toward the negative, resulting in consumer alienation. Consumptionalienation makes people into on matter, loss of the richness of the original one-sided malformations, and become one-sided deformed people. It is necessary to criticizeand reveal theoretically the shortcomings of consumption alienation. However,criticism is not our ultimate goal, our goal is to give full play to subjective initiative,select the moderate consumption, thus promote the person’s freedom andcomprehensive development.The fifth chapter, starting from the current situation and existing problems of China’sconsumption, has analyzed the cause of the problem in the field of consumption,andexplored the ideas and measures for the realization of moderate consumption. Thepurpose of research on moderate consumption theory is to practice the moderateconsumption in real life, which is not only the starting point, but also the standpoint ofthe paper.Moderate consumption is the consumption patterns adapted to an ecologicalcivilization, and it will be constantly development with the study and practice ofecological civilization. Moderate consumption requires the general public’sparticipation as well as the whole society’s collective action. Only the massesestablish the concept of moderate consumption, and do it by ourselves from now on,making resource-saving and environment-friendly as a public common values andconscious action, the consumption results will be more and more conducive to socialprogress and human development.
